Michael Eble: Somewhere

Oct 15, 2024 — Dec 21, 2024

Michael Eble’s paintings merge paint with various collaged and drawn materials, creating abstract topographies. His collection functions like an atlas or journal, where he records his responses to places and experiences through a unique visual language.

Eble views his creative practice as a formal construction process rather than simply painting. He prioritizes exploration and intuition, working within a flat-plane perspective. Layering lines, colors, and shapes into complex abstractions brings him deep satisfaction, resulting in works that evoke a sense of depth and emotion.

In addition to paint, Eble incorporates collaged elements into his work, adding dimension and inviting experimentation with different materials. The immediacy of collaged paper and found objects introduces a layered appeal that departs from the rigidity of hard-edge painting processes.

The layering of linear striations and motifs in his pieces reflects a strong connection to the rhythms of life. Eble draws continuous inspiration from the fractal nature of water, its interaction with light, and the horizon. His work is also influenced by cartography, poetry, mid-century design, and maritime elements. These diverse inspirations allow him to explore themes of travel, place, history, beauty, loss, time, and transformation.
